How many individuals suffer
from HD? In the United States there are approximately 40,000 individuals infected with HD. In addition, there are approximately 160,000 individuals who have tested positive for the HD gene and are pre-symptomatic or who have not been tested for the HD gene and are "at risk" from an infected parent. It's unclear how many individuals are infected or at-risk outside the United States. Unfortunately, it is clear that this disease is found world-wide. HD originated in Europe but was first diagnosed in the United States. |
